Another interesting one. So much easier than when I had to create a webpage at Uni in HTML. It looks good. So quick and easy to use, anyone could make one.

Wikis

These look very interesting. The use for Libraries is vast as can be seen in some of the readings provided. My first thought though was to use it as a book club central, where everybody in the bookclub could comment or add information regarding the current book that they were reading.

I have decided to comment on the first one.

I find that a lot of patrons are already expecting to find everything online. But you do need to balance this with the student who finds the online environment hard to handle and would prefer to find the information in a traditional manner. Eventually everything (well almost) will be in the online environment and we do have to prepare for the future if we want Libraries to still be relevant to our clients. It is a juggling act at present, but the scales are very quickly tipping in favour of the online environment.

I have been using this site for a while now and find it very useful. My delicious site is http://del.icio.us/TanyaLM. We have a Bremer Library site that is also useful and contains a lot of useful links that everyone may need to use (this was created by the same person who created the Horticulture delicious site mention in the tutorial).

Finding RSS feeds

Out of the choice of Feedster, Topix.net, Syndic8.com, and Technorati, I found Feedster to be the easiest and most straight forward to use. Although none of these were difficult to use, Technorati was probably the hardest. I found a feed that I added to my Google Reader called 'Library Link of the Day'.

RSS

Although I have subscribed and had a look at Bloglines I normally use Google Reader for my RSS feeds. I find it very useful to just scroll through this quickly and highlight articles that look interesting to read in more depth at a later date. I have subscribed to Australian Training Products and get updated on any new resources that become available, this is one example of how this can be used as a working tool. Libraries can take advantage of this system as well because some library system have RSS feed to alert clients of new additions, generally or on specific subjects.

Technology

There are so many new technologies out there that it is hard to choose one to comment on. Something that I find useful at the moment is del.icio.us. This is a social bookmarking site. Although there are many things you can do with this site, I find the fact that you can tag what used to be your bookmarks so you can find them again my favourite part. It is great from a Librarians point of view as this is very similar to cataloguing. I use it all the time, especially in my work when I am looking for Suppliers for specific materials.

I thought this was really cool. I like the way it gave you the HTML code so you could save it to use in your Webpages later.

7 1/2 habits of lifelong learners

From this list of habits I found 'Play' to be my hardest one. I rarely allow myself the time to just do this, it always seams to be a lower priority than many other things. The easiest one for me is 'Accept resonsibility for your own learning'. I am currently furthering my education via Uni in my choosen field, and I try to learn new things when ever I can, especially those that relate to my work.
